Android handsets have really inspired the world in very short time. According to various surveys, Android handsets are being loved and welcomed across the globe crazily. And it has gain 200% fame in previous some years. This fame is because of various reasons; its open source nature, latest hardware, availability of thousands of free apps and much more. Android application features and benefits can be better understood if we have a clear understanding of each of the Android’s release versions.

Since its inception, Android has seen many updates. Each latest version got bug fixes, various new attractive features, and many things that attract the customer according to latest smartphone trends. All the versions were built and still are being built on a code name. On a cool note, all the code names are based on dessert items. Cupcake, Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, and the upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich are the names of all its versions respectively.

Each of the versions has its own specific features, and with the availability of each new coming version, users start loving it more than they loved the previous version. Features of all Android versions are shortly described as below:

2.0 = Éclair: These versions of Android introduced optimized web browser with attractive interface along with support for W3C Geolocation API and the HTML5. Enhanced camera was also another attraction for Android app developers that came in this version.

2.1 = Éclair: The 2nd version of Éclair brought up voice controls support throughout the OS. 5 homescreens, new launcher, menu opening button and animated backgrounds were some of the attractions of this new Android version.

2.2 = Froyo: Speed improvements were brought as a major feature of this version and JIT optimization was also introduced for Android Developers. Adobe Flash support was also introduced in this version.

2.3 = Gingerbread: In this version, user interface was enriched with latest new features. Soft keyboard, availability of copy/paste function, and many other attractions were among the attractions of this Android version. User started loving Android more than ever before after the launch of this specific version, though Froyo was also widely-loved by Android users. All this increased the demand of Android app development more than before and world saw latest Android apps.

3.0 = Honeycomb: This Android’s version was basically introduced for Tablets. This version supported Android app development and new user interface features helped Android developers to be famous for tablets and netbooks. Motorola Xoom was the first tablet who run on Honeycomb. Its two sub versions 3.1, and 3.2 brought various other features for Android developers too.

4.0 = Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to be released in the 4Q of 2011. It is said to be a sort of combination of Honeycomb and Gingerbread.

All these versions of Android invite Android developers to develop attractive and interactive quality apps for latest generation mobile phones and tablet PCs. Sky is the only limit for Android developers now, otherwise, almost every sort of application is being developed for the Android devices.
